Berry season is quite literally my favorite season and a perfect time for our Cherry Berry Chia Seed Jam recipe. Not only does it mean warmer weather and sunnier days, it means an abundance of fresh, local, and deliciously sweet berries to use in all my favorite recipes. Starting now, be on the lookout for all the berries hitting your produce stand and farmer's market: strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, boysenberries, marionberries (If you're in the Pacific Northwest, like me!), raspberries, and so much more!
Berries are abundant in health benefits. They're a terrific source of antioxidants: compounds that work to reduce free radical damage to cells in the body. During regular processes of metabolism, our body makes free radicals as a by-product. A few free radicals are necessary to help protect against bacteria and viruses. Too many free radicals, however, can lead to oxidative stress and cell damage; a not so good thing. Enter: berries! Rich in numerous antioxidant compounds, berries are one of the highest antioxidant-containing fruits.
Berries are also thought to balance and help manage blood sugar and insulin levels, aid in digestive function thanks to their high fiber content, and fight inflammation. Berries are also packed with vitamin C and K, manganese, copper, and folate, which is another reason I love cherry berry chia seed jam.
I love using fresh berries in so many ways - salads, smoothies, on top of pancakes, and in homemade chia seed jam! Berry chia seed jam is so simple to make (you only need 3 ingredients) and it can be used in so many ways in your kitchen. All you'll need is Health-Ade Kombucha’s newest Cherry Berry flavor, 2 cups fresh berries of your choice, and one heaping tablespoon of chia seeds.
Adding Cherry Berry kombucha adds a boost of probiotic goodness and a hint of bubbly tang. It even adds in an essential bright sweetness when paired with fresh berries. Feel free to mix and match your berries in this recipe, depending on whatever you have on hand. Use your berry chia seed jam in overnight oats, on yogurt bowls, with pancakes and waffles, and eaten straight from the jar with a spoon - yum!
I’m sure you’ll agree that Cherry Berry Chia Seed Jam is a wholesome way to enjoy this simple homemade fruit jam without preservatives. You just need berries, chia seeds and kombucha.
3 Tbsp. Health-Ade Cherry Berry Kombucha
1) Add berries to a small bowl. Use a fork to mash until berries are broken down.
2) Stir in chia seeds and kombucha.
3) Let jam sit for 5 minutes, stir, and let sit an additional 10-15 minutes, or until thickened.
4) Store berry chia seed jam in an airtight jar in the refrigerator, where it will keep for up to 3 days. Enjoy!
