Meet Jeannette Ogden, the inspiring woman behind one of our favorite accounts & lifestyle brands, @shutthekaleup. Jeannette has been a longtime friend of Health-Ade for good reason- she embodies all that we value as a brand… tenacity, positivity, fun, happiness (the list goes on!).

STKU is a space that sheds light on the importance of living a happy & healthy life through a realistic balance of REAL food, family, exercise, and self-care.

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, we’re celebrating this mama who is proof that happiness really does come from within (after all, it’s a mindset AND a lifestyle)! Read on for the fifth interview in our FOLLOW YOUR GUT blog series, featuring Jeannette Ogden of @shutthekaleup.

Explain who you are and what you do!

My name is jeannette ogden, creator of STKU. I’m the mama to elliott grey, wife to aj and I basically just share my life with you all. I love all things family, fitness, well being, self care and REAL FOOD.

Your motivation to start @shutthekaleup- where did it come from?

Finding balance and happiness was why I started this account. I wanted to share my joy with people and help people understand that there is such thing as having a balanced lifestyle without having to be extreme and/or restrictive.

What does a typical day look like for you?

It varies but most days:

wake up, hit the gym, get home and make breakfast, get bub and i ready for our day and GO! We usually go to parks or wander to our local ecology center, meet up with moms and their babes so they can all play and end at home for dinner and bath time! Aj and I will get alone time after Elliott goes down for bed and that’s when the party begins. We’ll whip out snacks and watch something on tv all cuddled up on the couch.

Who or what inspires you?

My mom inspires the heck outta me. She’s a recovered alcoholic who is now LIVING and loving herself. She’s confident, smart, helpful and just full of joy.

How have things in your life changed since becoming a mother?

100%. No one understands how selfish they really are until they have a child. mom and dad, we’re constantly putting our children ahead of anything else and I wouldn’t change that!

Describe the “happiest and healthiest” version of yourself.

To be completely honest, I’m living my happiest and healthiest life now. I feel so blessed to have a healthy and energetic little boy, my husband is my best friend and we both get to work our dream jobs/work together, we’re healthy, we have family close by, we have a roof over our heads and get to spend a lot of time with people we love. That to me is living my best life and healthiest life.

Best advice you ever received?

Never let your life be lived by the opinions of others.

One thing on your bucket list?

To one day, be able to see the aurora borealis! It’s just so incredible!

What’s up next for @Shutthekaleup?

Growing my family, focusing on sharing fitness/yoga sequences and hoping to start workshops because I love connecting with my community!

What does “Follow Your Gut” mean to you?

It means to listen to your intuition, stay connected, learn to understand what your body is trying to tell you. It’s always showing us signs, we just gotta pay attention.
