Spring: A Season of Life Lessons

Ah, spring. The season so many look forward to. The transition from brutal snowstorms and gloomy days to sun-filled rain showers, and budding flowers brings so much hope and joy. Spring is an indication that the dark, bone-chilling days are behind us, and the long life-filled summer nights are within reach.

More than just a season of rain, mud, and flowers, spring teaches us a life lesson we can all be reminded of every now and then: to attain the fruits of your labor, you must face harsh and taxing conditions beforehand.

Let’s take a step back and examine the transition of winter to spring. Winter is the harshest of all seasons. From snowstorms, to wind chill, to darkness, living through winter is anything but a walk in the park. Not to mention, seasonal affective disorder is a thing that affects so many people during these winter months. Simply put: getting through winter is a challenge. Spring; however, is the light at the end of the tunnel to many who’ve bore the brunt of winter.

Spring is defined by life.

Flowers budding, birds chipping, grass growing—spring brings forth the life source in all beings. Once we see Mother Nature in full force, we are reminded why we had to endure winter to experience the beauty of spring. Now, let’s apply this to our lives.

During the challenging seasons of our lives, we question why we’re in it. We ask ourselves, and others what is the purpose of it all? Why me? Why now? Why this? Why! But all we need to do is turn to nature and examine the cycles that it follows. Growth, bounty, and beauty live on the other side of struggle. Nothing that happens to us is ever in vain. Everything contains purpose—even the most heart-wrenching, soul-crushing experiences.

The brutality of those challenging seasons provides us with a newfound gratitude and appreciation for the joy and contentment that will eventually follow. Victory will taste so much sweeter when we’ve already accustomed ourselves to the bitterness of pain.

Let this season of spring remind you that no matter what struggle you’re currently facing, you will eventually arrive at place of peace, happiness, and reward. This may be your season of snowstorms, but just around the corner is your season of beauty and reward.
